Phoolon Ki Holi/ Flower Holi - Vrindavan, Uttar Pradesh
In Vrindavan (Uttar Pradesh), devotees are showered in fragrant flower petals at the Banke Bihari Temple. This version of Holi is celebrated with flowers instead of the usual dry colors used to play Holi. Why?
According to legend, Krishna had not seen Radha for a long time, which left her upset. When Krishna visited Radha in Mathura, he playfully threw a flower at her. Soon, Radha and her friends joined in, showering flowers on each other - giving rise to his unique tradition.
Lathmar Holi - Barsana & Nandgaon, Uttar Pradesh
Celebrated in the small town of Barsana, this festival is known for its unique tradition where women playfully strike men with sticks (lathis), while the men protect themselves using shields.
According to legend, Krishna and his friends would visit Barsana to tease Radha and her friends, by throwing color at them. In response, the women playfully chased them away with sticks (laathis). This lively tradition continues today, symbolizing the joyful and mischievous spirit of Krishna's divine love.
Hola Mohalla - Punjab
Hola Mohalla, established by Guru Gobind Singh Ji in the late 17th century, is a three day Sikh festival showcasing military skills, mock battles and exercises. It fosters unity and preparedness among Sikhs, attracting visitors worldwide.
Shigmo - Goa
Shigmo is a popular festival in Goa, It marks the return of warriors who had departed after Dussera to battle invaders. The festival features lively folk dances, songs and the grand Shigmo float parade.
Manjal Kuli - Kerala
