Why multiple Navratris?
Ever wondered why Navratri isn't celebrated just once but multiple times a year? Each Navratri comes in a different season with its own meaning and way of celebration.
March/ April - Chaitra Navratri (Spring)
- Why - Marks the Hindu New Year in many regions, symbolizing new beginnings
- How - Fasting, prayers and reading of the Ramayana. In North India, it ends with Ram Navami (Lord Rama's birthday)
June/ July - Ashadha Gupt Navratri (Monsoon)
- Why - A more spiritual Navratri for deep meditation and sadhana
- How - Mostly observed by yogis and saints with special rituals and devotion, not widely celebrated by the public
September/ October - Sharad Navratri (Autumn)
- Why - The most popular Navratri, celebrating Goddess Durga's victory over Mahishasura, symbolizing triumph of good over evil
- How - Grand celebrations with Garba, Dandiya, Durga Puja, stage plays (Ram Leela), fasting and nine nights of devotion
January/ February - Magha Gupt Navratri (Winter)
- Why - A time for inner purification and connecting deeply with Shakti (divine feminine energy)
- How - Observed through fasting, chanting mantras, and spiritual practices similar to Ashadha Navratri
Whether it comes once or many times a year, Navratri always reminds us that goodness and devotion never fade
Wish you a Happy Navratri!
