Why does Lord Krishna wear a peacock feather? Part 1

Jul 27, 2024

Lord Krishna always captivates hearts with His mesmerizing presence. He is often depicted with a striking peacock feather adorning His crown.

Why does He wear a feather though?

    • Divine Symbolism - The peacock feather represents beauty, grace and purity just like His personality
    • Connection to nature - Lord Krishna is often depicted in forests with vibrant flora and fauna
    • Radha's love - Radha, who loves animals, once gave Lord Krishna a peacock feather. He wore it as a token of her presence wherever He went

One feather - Many symbols. But wait, there's more!

    A beautiful dance

One day, Lord Krishna decided to wake everyone by playing His flute. His music enchanted all animals including the peacocks. They began to dance

As they danced, the peacock leader came to Lord Krishna and made a sound. Lord Krishna understood what the peacock was trying to say. He got up and danced among them.

When the music stopped, there was absolute silence. The leader approached Lord Krishna and offered his most prized possession - his feathers. He said "Please accept our humblest offering and wear them on your crown".

Since then, Lord Krishna always wore a peacock feather as a form of respect

So what does the feather really signify?

The peacock offered its most treasured possession to show its gratitude. When Krishna accepted the feather, He showed His appreciation for the sincere offerings and devotion

The feather is more than a symbol of beauty. It embodies Krishna's humility, appreciation and the connection He has with His devotees
